Following a successful deployment supporting wind farms in UK waters, Wind of Hope has now joined its sister vessel, Wind of Change, which has been operating in the German North Sea since 2019.

Both purpose built Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) are now jointly supporting maintenance operations across Ørsted’s 337 offshore wind turbines in the area.

The addition of Wind of Hope reflects Ørsted’s ongoing investment in operational excellence and sustainable offshore infrastructure, particularly as the company has nearly doubled its installed wind capacity in the German North Sea in recent years.

Measuring 84 metres in length, Wind of Hope is equipped with 90 individual cabins, offering accommodation for service technicians and crew during offshore assignments.

The vessel features a modern diesel electric propulsion system with hybrid assistance and an onboard battery pack an advanced combination designed to lower fuel consumption and reduce CO₂ emissions.

Key technical features also include an intelligent dynamic positioning system that maintains the vessel’s position with a deviation of less than one metre, enhancing operational safety during maintenance work.

Its motion compensated gangway system ensures safe personnel transfers, even in challenging sea conditions.

The deployment of Wind of Hope comes at a time of growing demand for offshore maintenance capabilities, as Germany accelerates its renewable energy targets and increases investment in offshore infrastructure.
