Swedish floating wind company SeaTwirl AB (STO:STW), along with the consortium behind its Verti-Go project, has received EUR 15 million (USD 17.4m) under the EU’s Horizon Europe funding programme to demonstrate a 2-MW floating vertical-axis wind turbine.Scheduled to start on October 1, the Verti-Go project will cover the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of the unit. The design phase is expected to wrap up by late 2026, with construction and operations scheduled to continue until the end of 2029.
The initiative is led by SeaTwirl, as the technical coordinator, and the University College Cork as the project coordinator. The consortium behind the demonstration project also includes EDP – Cnet Centre for New Energy Technologies SA, Greenov, Next Fabrication, Sub Connected AB, Sowento, RSTER, PNO, Bureau Veritas, and Zorlu Enerji.
The European financing comes under the EU program “Demonstrations of innovative floating wind concepts.” SeaTwirl’s project was named a winner in May.
