{"id":1028,"date":"2021-09-08T16:39:47","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T13:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ege-windturbines.com\/en\/?p=1028"},"modified":"2021-09-08T16:39:52","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T13:39:52","slug":"wind-turbine-giant-siemens-gamesa-claims-world-first-in-blade-recycling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ege-windturbines.com\/en\/2021\/09\/08\/wind-turbine-giant-siemens-gamesa-claims-world-first-in-blade-recycling\/","title":{"rendered":"Wind Turbine Giant Siemens Gamesa claims World-First in Blade Recycling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SGRE-ES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy<\/a>\u00a0said Tuesday it had launched a recyclable wind turbine blade, a move which represents the latest example of how the industry is attempting to find ways to re-use materials.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Spanish-German engineering group claimed its RecyclableBlades were \u201cthe world\u2019s first recyclable wind turbine blades ready for commercial use offshore.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"BoxInline-container  \">\n<div id=\"BoxInline-ArticleBody-6\" class=\"BoxInline-container\" data-module=\"mps-slot\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Siemens Gamesa said it would work with German utility\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/RWE-DE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RWE<\/a>\u00a0to install and pilot the blades at the Kaskasi offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, which is expected to commence commercial operations in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The firm \u2013 whose major shareholder is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ENR-DE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siemens Energy<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 said it was also working with EDF Renewables on the goal of deploying \u201cseveral sets\u201d of the blades \u201cat a future offshore wind farm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A similar collaboration is taking place with wpd, a German-headquartered company which develops and operates wind farms.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of what to do with wind turbine blades when they\u2019re no longer needed is a headache for the industry. The materials can then be reused in new applications after separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"MidResponsive-midResponsiveContainer\">\n<div id=\"MidResponsive-1\" class=\"\" data-module=\"mps-slot\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Over the last few years a number of major players in wind energy have announced plans to try to tackle the problem of what to do with wind turbine blades.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Denmark\u2019s Orsted said it would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/03\/energy-giant-orsted-to-recover-reuse-or-recycle-turbine-blades.html\">\u201creuse, recycle, or recover\u201d all turbine blades<\/a>\u00a0in its worldwide portfolio of wind farms once they\u2019re decommissioned.<\/p>\n<p>The same month saw\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Electric\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0renewables unit and cement manufacturer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/HOL.N-CH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Holcim<\/a>\u00a0strike a deal to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/11\/cement-firm-works-with-ges-renewables-unit-on-wind-turbine-recycling-.html\">explore the recycling of wind turbine blades.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back in April, it was announced that a collaboration between academia and industry\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/04\/23\/offshore-wind-firm-to-work-with-researchers-and-tackle-blade-waste.html\">would focus on the recycling of glass fiber products<\/a>, a move that could eventually help to reduce the waste produced by wind turbine blades.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, GE Renewable Energy and Veolia North America\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/12\/09\/cement-production-to-use-old-wind-turbine-blades-after-ge-inks-deal-.html\">signed a \u201cmulti-year agreement\u201d to recycle blades removed from onshore wind turbines in the United States.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And in January 2020 another wind energy giant, Vestas,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/01\/20\/vestas-announces-plans-for-zero-waste-turbines.html\">said it was aiming to<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/01\/20\/vestas-announces-plans-for-zero-waste-turbines.html\">produce \u201czero-waste\u201d turbines by the year 2040.<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/09\/07\/wind-energy-giant-siemens-gamesa-claims-world-first-in-blade-recycling.html\">https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/09\/07\/wind-energy-giant-siemens-gamesa-claims-world-first-in-blade-recycling.html<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;] Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy\u00a0said Tuesday it had launched a recyclable wind turbine blade, a move which represents the latest example of how the industry is attempting to find ways to re-use materials.
