The parent company is also active in wind farm development in its home market and in Canada, according to its website.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Seriti is a major coal player in Africa and claims that a third of state-owned utility Eskom\u2019s electricity comes from its coal. However, last year it set up a renewable energy unit \u2013 Seriti Green \u2013 to diversify into wind and solar.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It explained that introducing renewable energy into its portfolio will provide \u201clong-term financial stability and diversification\u201d.<\/p>\n<div id=\"advertCentre\">\n<div id=\"c501Ad\" class=\"commercialSlot\" data-location-code=\"C\" data-sizes=\"300x250\" data-google-query-id=\"CILJkY2py_kCFfmB_QcdYdsB3A\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5748\/wpw.main\/page\/news\/article_5__container__\"><iframe id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5748\/wpw.main\/page\/news\/article_5\" tabindex=\"0\" title=\"3rd party ad content\" role=\"region\" name=\"google_ads_iframe_\/5748\/wpw.main\/page\/news\/article_5\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\" data-load-complete=\"true\" data-google-container-id=\"6\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Seriti CEO Mike Teke said: \u201cWe need to be moving towards a lower carbon future through investing capital from coal into green energy. It is not only the right thing to do, but it makes business and societal sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Windlab Africa CEO John Martin added that Seriti\u2019s investment will help to accelerate the development of its renewables pipeline.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The transaction is due to complete by the end of 2022.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">South Africa has faced weeks of intermittent, hours-long blackouts as utility Eskom\u2019s ageing fleet struggles to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">President Cyril Rampahosa recently announced plans to put renewables at the heart of his strategy to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1794209\/south-africa-turns-renewable-energy-combat-blackouts\">prevent the national-level rolling blackouts<\/a>.
