{"id":541,"date":"2018-06-13T15:14:34","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T12:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ege-windturbines.com\/en\/?p=541"},"modified":"2018-06-13T15:14:34","modified_gmt":"2018-06-13T12:14:34","slug":"eni-to-build-first-wind-farm-in-kazakhstan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ege-windturbines.com\/en\/2018\/06\/13\/eni-to-build-first-wind-farm-in-kazakhstan\/","title":{"rendered":"Eni to Build First Wind Farm in Kazakhstan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section admin_label=&#8221;section&#8221;][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;row&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;justified&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>KAZAKHSTAN: Italian firm Eni has taken the final investment decision (FID) to build, develop and operate a 50MW wind farm in the north-west of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Construction of the Badamsha project in the Aktobe province will start &#8220;in the coming months&#8221;, the oil and gas giant stated, with commercial operation and grid connection expected by the end of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The project is the Italian company\u2019s first large-scale investment in wind power, having announced plans to expand into the renewables sector earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Eni added the FID also represents &#8220;the first material step&#8221; of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with GE and the Kazakh minister of energy in June 2017 to promote the development of renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n<p>The company has been present in the country since 1992 and jointly operates the Karachaganak gas field in the north-west of Kazakhstan and is an equity partner in several projects in the northern Caspian Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Eni had previously signed a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1416447\/eni-expand-renewables-ge-deal\">framework deal<\/a>\u00a0with GE in 2016 to develop renewable energy projects including onshore and offshore wind.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2018, it announced plans to install\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1459770\/eni-targets-1gw-renewables-2021\">1GW of new renewable energy capacity by 2021<\/a>\u00a0and 5GW of clean energy capacity by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Badamsha project would provide the Aktobe region with about 198GWh\/year, Eni stated.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan currently has no online wind projects, but there are several in various stages of development.<\/p>\n<p>The government owns six 35MW sites in the north of the country, and a 78MW project in the east that it hopes to complete this year. It also awarded just under 100MW through a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1465932\/updated-ten-projects-awarded-100mw-kazakh-auctions\">tender process in June 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan aims to source 50% of its power from renewables by 2050.
