The manufacturer\u2019s V150-4.X and V120-2.2 turbines both ranked in the top five onshore models ordered in Q1 2019, and it won more than 500MW of orders in North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n

Its success came as worldwide first-quarter orders eclipsed the record set a year ago by 875MW (up 7% year on year), according to analysis by Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables (WMPR).<\/p>\n

Strong order intake in\u00a0China<\/a>\u00a0and the Americas more than offset a nearly 20% year-on-year decrease in the combined Europe, Middle East, Africa,\u00a0Russia<\/a>\u00a0and Caspian region, the analysts stated.<\/p>\n

Chinese offshore<\/h4>\n

China\u2019s offshore sector ramped up in Q1 2019 as provinces tried to meet grid-connection targets for projects in Chinese waters, WMPR added.<\/p>\n

In total, orders were signed for 1.7GW in the first quarter (up 66% year on year), with five Chinese OEMs securing at least 300MW of firm orders for domestic offshore wind farms.<\/p>\n

https:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1585791\/record-global-order-intake-q1-2019<\/a>Chinese manufacturers accounted for 77% of all offshore capacity ordered globally in the first quarter, the analysts added.<\/p>\n

By contrast, the European offshore wind sector declined 55% year on year, with just a single 487MW order signed off for a\u00a0Belgian<\/a>\u00a0project, the analysts noted. Siemens Gamesa will supply its SG-8.0-167 DD turbine for the 487MW Seamade project off the coast of Belgium.<\/p>\n

Bigger turbines<\/h4>\n

Order intake for the 4.0-4.99MW segment increased for the fourth consecutive quarter, with more than 500MW of purchases made in the US, China and Brazil.<\/p>\n

Vestas\u2019 V140-4.X and Siemens Gamesa\u2019s SG 4.5-145 were the top two models ordered in Q1 2019, WMPR noted.<\/p>\n
